Photographed in the heart of winter, this moment followed a passing storm along the Hatteras shoreline. Low light broke beneath the heavy clouds, casting long shadows across the sand and carving out the texture left behind by the tide. The air was still, the birds grounded. Everything held its breath. Then it passed.
