“Albatross Fleet”

The Albatross Fleet has been part of Hatteras Island since 1937, when Ernal Foster launched what became one of the first offshore charter boats in the region. Built with rounded sterns, simple working lines and the unmistakeable red and white candy striped riggers, the boats helped shape the early identity of sport fishing along the Outer Banks. Today the boats remain a familiar sight in Hatteras, carrying forward the same quiet purpose that helped define the island’s fishing identity. Here they rest quietly in the morning light, reflected in the still water before heading back into the Gulf Stream, just as they have for generations.
